California callin'... I'll be there right away!!!

It has been a while -- almost a month since you last heard from me...

But I have to tell you, I have been busy enjoying my freedom from school. It is odd to think that at 32 years old I would still get excited about summer vacation, but it is true!

So what have I been doing with all that time off?

First off, Chris, Laurie & I sprinted through America's Finest City 1/2 Marathon. It is a beautiful city and there was a LOT of sightseeing: Tijuana, Self-Realization Fellowship in Encinitas, Rancho's Mexican Food in Ocean Beach, brunch at the Hotel Del on Coronado Island, visiting with a great handful of friends and even having time to have Indian food for lunch with my mom in Santa Monica.

To top it all off, we ran great... Chris posted a sub 2:00:00 time because he sprinted like mad up 6th Avenue towards Balboa Park for the finish... but I got in with a cool 2:00:13. Congratualations to Chris by the way, on his new position with Amgen!!

Next was a trip to Minnesota to visit with my girlfriend's family and SUPERCUTE nephew!! Again, a good handful of fun that included taking in the Body Worlds exhibit in St. Paul, a visit to the Minnesota State Fair where everyone pigged out on everything from foot-long hot dogs, deep-fried cheese curds and, yes, deep-fried Snickers bar on a stick!!! There was also lots of water time with jetskiing and waterskiing on Lake Owasso.

Unfortunately, the running has literally stopped as I have been nursing a irritated flexor muscle in my right foot... staying out of my running shoes has been tough, but I think this weekend Doug & I will be back at it with a casual 12-miler at Stone Mountain to kick off the final leg of training before New York.

Speaking of New York... the November 5th date is coming fast and so are the donations for Team Continuum. Thanks to the goodwill of my fellow Emory collegues Satish Hemachandran & Priya Krishnamoorthy, I have crossed over the $1600.00 mark.

I do want to ask all of you who have been reading and thinking about putting money towards my efforts to do so in the next few weeks or so... I have been pretty lucky with the fundraising so far, but I still have a bit to go till I get to the $2500.00 goal!!

Lastly, of course, since it is early September, and I am an NFL fan, there must be a Fantasy Football draft in sight... my brother, Jonathan and I drafted the likes of LaDanian Tomlinson, Torry Holt & Matt Hasslebeck for our Par Four team and are ready to take on the fantasy gridiron for the next four months.

So that was my summer vacation - and I can tell that school is getting back in session, because sooner than we know it, the books are opening and study sessions are forming...

A final shoutout to Michael Negretti and Tim Thomas, who celebrate their birthdays on Monday, September 11th... This reminds us that although 9/11 is an infamous day in our nation's history - there are a lot of good things that have happened on that day too!!

Also, for those of you in the New York area looking for something different to do, my friend's Sean's movie continues to make its way through festivals... Next stop is the Fire Island Film & Video Festival. "In The Blood" will be the feature showing on opening night, September 13th.
