Week 1 Report... There is money in that banana stand!

The last week has certainly been filled with a lot.

First off, the excitement of hearing so many positive comments from friends and family about my quest for New York. It was truly great to hear from everyone, especially Avi's mom, my cousin Robin!

Second, the donations are starting to come in ALREADY!!! Amazing,
I've already received more than $500.00!! A special thanks to each of you for your kind words and encouragement:

- Judy Wood (Roseville, MN)
- Courtney Wood (Atlanta, GA)
- Ann Simons (Scottsdale, AZ)
- Kristi Green (South St. Paul, MN)

Third, to keep everyone updated on my progress... my Sunday long run
on Father's Day took place at the Silver Comet Trail in Cobb County, GA. I completed a 9.2 mile run in 87:08 (a 9:28 pace). The morning was beautiful because for the most part, the humidity that makes the Dirty South dirty has stayed away. It was also nice to spend Father's Day morning running and reflecting... I know quite a few of us are going through one of the first or second Father's Days without our own father and although it is sad in many ways... it is an uplifting reminder of what we still have here between each other in our present day!

Fourth, school is going great... I have to say that it is because after spending 14 hours this weekend working on my Managerial Economics mid-term, I have nothing left but appreciation and admiration! It is a challenge staying up till midnight every night reading and working on balance sheets and then waking up the next day in time to be in the office by 8 a.m. and sitting in class by 6 p.m. that night!! I have my Financial Accounting mid-term up next so if any of you clearly understand the rationale behind Debiting cash and crediting account receiveables... let me know!!

Last, a head to toe look at me on race day:

Shoes - Saucony Omni Grid V - I currently have about 110 miles on this pair, they say you should change your shoes out every 400 miles or so. I love these shoes so much that two weeks after getting them, I was back at Phidippides getting a second pair.

Shorts - Black Tempo from New Balance - sturdy, lightweight and pockets for the ipod or gels.

Shirt - New Balance Ticket T - Now these are some comfortable shirts that wick away the sweat l
ike nobody's business! I highly suggest them, even if you aren't running somewhere!

Underwear/Headgear - Under Armour - This stuff works... no chaffing and the skull cap keeps my head cool all morning long!

Gels - GU - There are tons of carb loading gels out there, and I haven't found one that I terribly dislike, however GU is the best of them, with fun flavors like Vanilla Bean, Orange Burst and Espresso, how can you go wrong?

Fuel Belt - Fuel Belt - This handy little pack allows me to carry all the water I need with me on my runs... thankfully I am only at one bottle now
, but at 20+ mile runs, I'll fill four of these containers up and lug them around for three hours...

Music - Ipod Shuffle - Cheap so if it breaks, no big whoop, uses a flash drive, so no skipping, small so it fits anywhere and 512K of music storage which is enough for a marathon. Song of the week on the Ipod is "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley... download it twice! I also use Sony Ear Buds for my headphones.

See you in a week! :)
